The book is titled Course in Pharmaceutical and Chemical Arithmetic Third edition and has a copyright date of 1903. The preface to the Third edition is dated 1906. Rock has written his name in pencil in the book in 2 places - inside the front cover with Corby Hall added and also signed inside the back cover. Rock also has made numerous notations throughout the book and I found a page with nice hand done chemical diagrams. The condition of the book is excellent considering it is over 100 years old. There are no loose pages and the pages are pretty clean overall. The only minor issue that I see is that inside the front cover, the paper along the binding has broken but the cover has not separated. This does not detract from the historical significance of this item. This is an unbelievable one of a kind find that probably should be on display in a museum. Rockne items are hard to find in general but to find an item from his college career is a once in a lifetime find. This one of a kind piece of Notre Dame and American History was purchased years ago from a well known mid-west dealer who auctioned a number of Knute Rockne items that were consigned by Rockne’s granddaughter. A copy of the letter signed by Rockne's granddaughter that I received when I bought this item is included. I will also include the original auction listing and a published article on the dealer who sold this book to me. Rockne was the Head Football Coach at Notre Dame from 1918 through the 1930 season, he is credited with 3 National Championships and coached George Gipp who was the subject of the famous "win one for the Gipper" speech, the Four Horsemen and many other great athletes. Rockne’s life was tragically cut short in a plane crash on March 31, 1931.
