Description
This rare Game 3 program from the Polo Grounds in NY represents history in the making. Scored in pencil, this program neatly records a 2-0 Giants win over the powerful Chicago White Sox and their best pitcher Ed Cicotte, one of the eight players indicted in the “1919 Black Sox” World Series scandal… Six of the “eight men out” started in this game along with Cicotte, including Fred McMullen at 3b, Oscar “Happy” Felsch in CF, Arnold “Chick” Gandil,(the ring leader) at 1b, George Weaver at SS, and of course the great “Shoeless Joe Jackson in LF. This was the only game of the series in which six of the infamous eight were starters. Of those eight, only Lefty Williams (who pitched only one inning in this World Series) and Charles Risberg (who had but two plate appearances as a pinch hitter), were not in the starting line-up for this game. Played on Wednesday afternoon October 10th with Hall of Fame Umpire Bill Klem in charge of the men in blue and calling the balls and strikes, this game was one of only two wins captured by the Giants on their way to a 6 Game Series loss to the soon-to-be-infamous White Sox. This much sought-after 1917 WS Program is in excellent condition, with its spine and all pages intact. The color is vivid throughout, especially on the front cover. Only a slight pocket fold as seen in the pictures along with some minor tearing and chipping in small areas at the bottom of the two center pages keep this program from being pretty much Mint Condition. World Series Programs of this vintage are typically found only at Auction as was this one. A 1917 WS Program of this quality when offered on E-Bay can represent quite a value to the collector or dealer, as there is no Buyer Premium to be paid along with its purchase price. An appropriate reserve has been set that represents both the quality and the value of this program now being offered on E-Bay. Thanks for looking and good luck with your bidding on this classic, old-time favorite World Series Program! Shipping via FEDEX (including insurance)$39.00
